Description: Portrait of Oliver Cromwell (1599-1658) in an architectural frame with allegorical figures and historical representations. Cromwell is represented half-skulled, in armor, on either side festoons with symbols of battle and of England. Above, personifications of Fame, reigning Love and History or Historiography. On the left Faith, on the right Hope. Below left robbing and blowing up merchant ships. On the right an allegorical representation in which Cromwell is crowned with the papal tiara by the dragon "grasping bird" while oppressing the Dutchman, the Frenchman, the Scot and the Irishman.
