Description: Battle of Ramillies on May 23, 1706, between the allied troops under commado of Marlborough and Nassau-Ouwerkerk against the united French, Spanish and Bavarian troops under command of Marshal de Villeroy. On the left some tall trees, on the right in the third plan the ridge, on which Folx-les-Caves and Jandreouille lie and in the distance in the middle the plateau of Mont St. André. In the foreground a cavalry battle, which took place on the left flank of the Allied army against the right flank of Villeroy. In the right corner a staff with presumably portrait of Marlborough on a black horse. The rider seen from the back may be Major General Murray. He who looks more like a civilian could perhaps be Sicco Goslinga, the delegate to the Allied Army attached to the States General. To the left of center, just behind the large cavalry battle, Allied cavalry is conducting and charge against the infantrymen of both crowns, who are waiting for them with felled spikes. Further back, the main force of the Allies, under the command of Lord Orteney, attacks the center of the Franco-Spanish-Bavarian lines, under Villeroy and Elector Maximilian Emanuel of Beiren, who were positioned at Ramillies and further north, at Offus and Autreglise (Anderkerk).
